Music Activity Guide

This guide is designed to help you facilitate the creative expression portion of the lesson. The goal is to allow students to represent their emotions through sounds and rhythms, using either simple instruments or their own bodies. Follow these guidelines to ensure a smooth activity:

1. Introduction

Begin by explaining that music is a powerful way to show how we feel, and that there are no right or wrong sounds. Every sound is unique and personal!
Ask the students: "How do you think different sounds can express feelings like happiness, sadness, or excitement?"

2. Demonstration

Show a few examples using simple instruments (like shakers, tambourines, or drums) or by demonstrating body percussion (like clapping, snapping, or stomping).
Encourage students to notice how different sounds can change the mood in a room.

3. Student Participation

Divide the class into small groups or work one-on-one, depending on class size.
Provide each student, or group, with an instrument or give them the space to use body percussion.
Prompt them with a series of feelings (e.g., "How would you sound happy? How would you sound excited?") and ask them to choose one emotion to express with their sound.
Remind them that they can use a mix of instruments and body sounds to better capture their feelings.

4. Creative Development

Allow students some time (about 10 minutes) to experiment and create their sound or rhythm.
