Coping Skills in Action

Increase use of learned coping skills

This lesson focuses on reinforcing coping skills that the student has previously learned, with an emphasis on practical application in the classroom setting. By engaging in a hands-on activity and reflective discussion, the student will better understand how to apply these skills in real-life situations, ultimately enhancing their emotional regulation and classroom behavior.

Step 1

Introduction

5 mins

  • Briefly review what coping skills are and why they are important.
  • Ask the student to share one coping skill they remember learning.

Step 2

Coping Skills Activity

15 mins

  • Provide the student with a Coping Skills Worksheet.
  • Ask the student to write down three coping skills they have learned.
  • For each skill, write a situation where they might use it in class.
  • Discuss each situation and how the skill can be applied.

Step 3

Reflection Discussion

10 mins

  • Use the Reflection Discussion Questions to guide a conversation about the activity.
  • Encourage the student to think about how they can use these skills more often in class.
  • Discuss any challenges they might face and brainstorm solutions.

Closure

5 mins

  • Summarize the key points discussed.
  • Encourage the student to set a goal for using one coping skill in the next week.
