Lesson Plan

Recognizing Our Feelings

Students will learn to identify and name six core emotions—happy, sad, angry, scared, excited, and calm—by observing facial expressions and using new vocabulary, building self-awareness and communication skills.

Building emotional vocabulary and self-awareness helps students understand and express their feelings clearly, supports positive peer interactions, and lays the groundwork for healthy emotion regulation. This lesson aligns with CASEL’s Self-Awareness competency and CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.K.1.
