Checking In With Ourselves

Students will reflect honestly on their habits and name one success and one area to improve.

This lesson helps students develop self-awareness and a growth mindset by encouraging them to honestly assess their progress and identify areas for personal growth. It builds foundational skills for self-management and goal setting.

Welcome & Connect

3 minutes

Hook: What's a habit?
- Greet students and project Slide 1: Checking In With Ourselves from the Finish Strong Slide Deck.
- Ask students to share one good habit they have (e.g., brushing teeth, reading before bed).
- Introduce the idea of "checking in with ourselves" and how thinking about our habits helps us grow and "finish strong." Refer to Slide 2: My Habits, My Growth.

Individual Reflection

My Habits, My Growth
- Distribute the Habit Tracker Worksheet to each student.
- Guide students through Slide 3: Self-Reflection Time and explain the worksheet sections: "My Success Habit" and "My Growth Habit."
- Emphasize being honest with themselves. Circulate to provide support and answer questions as students complete their worksheets.

Small Group Discussion

7 minutes

Talk It Out: Growth and Goals
- Divide students into small groups (3-4 students per group).
- Project Slide 4: Discuss & Share from the Finish Strong Slide Deck showing the Growth and Goals Discussion Prompts.
- Instruct groups to discuss their answers to the prompts on the worksheet. Encourage them to listen to each other and offer supportive ideas for improvement.

Share Out & Celebrate

3 minutes

High Fives for Habits!
- Bring the class back together.
- Ask a few volunteers to share one "success habit" and one "growth habit" from their discussions.
- Celebrate their honesty and efforts to improve. Remind them that everyone is always learning and growing! Refer to Slide 5: Keep Growing!
