Time

20 minutes

Approach

Model, individual reflection, paired sharing, group reflection

Materials

All About Me Worksheet, Chart Paper, Markers, and Name Tags or Labels

Prep

Prepare Materials

5 minutes

  • Print one copy of All About Me Worksheet per student
  • Post or lay out chart paper and provide markers
  • Prepare name tags or labels for each student
  • Review the worksheet prompts and sample responses

Step 1

Introduction

3 minutes

  • Gather students in a circle or around a common space
  • Explain the lesson objective: "Today we’ll learn about ourselves and our classmates by sharing personal qualities."
  • Model the activity by sharing three of your own qualities (e.g., "I am creative, patient, and curious.")
  • Emphasize active listening: look at your partner and ask a follow-up question

Step 2

Trait Brainstorm

5 minutes

  • Distribute the All About Me Worksheet
  • Instruct students to list three personal qualities and draw a small image or icon representing each trait
  • Circulate to support students who need help defining or spelling qualities

Step 3

Pair Share

7 minutes

  • Arrange students in pairs (consider mixed abilities to support IEP/504 needs)
  • In each pair, Student A shares their three qualities while Student B listens and asks one question for clarification
  • Switch roles after 3–4 minutes so both students have a turn to speak and listen
  • Encourage positive feedback (e.g., “That’s interesting!” or “Thank you for sharing!”)

Step 4

Group Reflection & Closure

5 minutes

  • Invite 3–4 volunteers to share one trait and something new they learned about a peer
  • Record each shared trait and student name on chart paper under headings “Trait” and “Person”
  • Facilitate a brief discussion: “How does knowing these qualities help us work together?”
  • Reinforce active listening and the value of recognizing others’ strengths
  • Assessment: Observe students’ participation, clarity in sharing, and engagement as listeners
