Intro to Personality Disorders

This video provides an introduction to personality disorders, focusing on Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). It discusses how BPD affects an individual's emotions, self-esteem, relationships, and behavior, and how it can lead to self-harm.

Personality Disorders. Personality disorders affect an individual's way of thinking, feeling, and behaving in a manner that deviates from societal expectations. This condition causes distress or problems in functioning and persists over time. One of the most common personality disorders is Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). This condition is characterized by difficulties in regulating emotions. This means that individuals who experience BPD feel emotions intensely and for extended periods of time. It may be more challenging for them to return to a stable baseline after an emotionally triggering event. BPD can lead to impulsive behavior, poor self-esteem, a negative self-image, unstable relationships, and intense emotional responses to stressors. Struggles with self-regulation can also result in dangerous behaviors such as self-harm.
