Prep

Review Materials

10 minutes

Step 1

Warm-Up: Where Are You Your Best Self?

5 minutes

  • Begin by asking students to reflect on a time or place where they feel like their absolute best self. (e.g., playing a sport, helping a sibling, building something).
  • Ask a few students to share their responses with the class. Frame this around identifying their 'zone of strength'.
  • Transition to the idea that these strengths aren't just for school.

Step 2

Introduce Strengths Transfer & Context

7 minutes

  • Present the My Strengths Universe Slides to introduce the concept of strengths being transferable across different 'settings' or contexts (home, friends, community).
  • Discuss key concepts like 'Self-awareness' and 'Relationships'.
  • Lead a short brainstorm as a class: What are some strengths you use at school? What about outside of school? (e.g., leadership, creativity, kindness, problem-solving).

Step 3

Map Strengths to Settings Activity

10 minutes

  • Distribute the Strengths in Settings Map worksheet.
  • Instruct students to choose one personal strength they identified earlier.
  • Then, guide them to think about how they can apply that specific strength in two different non-school settings: their home life and with their friends.
  • Encourage them to be specific with examples (e.g., if 'kindness' is a strength, how does it look at home? Helping with chores? Listening to a family member?). Circulate and provide support as needed.

Step 4

Commit to a Home Strength Mission

6 minutes

  • Distribute the My Home Strength Mission journal prompt.
  • Ask students to choose one strength application they mapped for their home life and write a short commitment to trying it out this week.
  • Facilitate a brief share-out, allowing students to verbally commit to their

Your Strengths, Everywhere!

Where do you shine the brightest?

Think about a place or activity where you feel like your best self. What makes you feel that way?

Start with a warm welcome and connect to the Do Now activity from the lesson plan. Ask students to share some of the places they feel their best. Transition by saying, 'Today, we're going to explore how those awesome strengths aren't just for one place – they're part of your whole universe!'

What Are Your Strengths?

Your unique talents, skills, and positive qualities!

  • Are you a great listener?
  • A creative problem-solver?
  • Super organized?
  • Always kind?
  • A natural leader?

Introduce the idea of 'strengths' as special powers we all have. Emphasize that these aren't just about being 'good' at something, but also about character traits. Ask students for examples of strengths they recognize in themselves or others.

Strengths in Different Settings

Your strengths aren't just for school!

They travel with you to:

  • Home 🏡
  • Friends & Family 🧑‍🤝‍🧑
  • Sports Teams ⚽
  • Clubs & Activities 🎨
  • Your Community 🌍

Explain 'context' as 'where' or 'when' you use your strengths. Discuss how different situations might call for different strengths, or how the same strength can look different in various places. Use simple examples: a 'leader' on a sports team vs. a 'leader' at home helping with dinner.

Your Strengths are Flexible!

Strengths Transfer: Using a strength from one area of your life in another.

Self-Awareness: Knowing your own awesome abilities.

Relationships: How your strengths help you connect with people.

Introduce the idea of 'Strengths Transfer' – how a strength learned or used in one place can be just as valuable in another. Briefly mention self-awareness (knowing your strengths) and relationships (how your strengths help you connect with others).

Mapping Your Strengths

Let's explore how your strengths fit into your world outside of school.

Today, we'll focus on applying one strength at home and with friends.

Explain the next activity where students will map their strengths. Encourage them to think creatively. Reiterate that identifying how strengths apply in different contexts builds confidence and helps them understand their own value.

Be a Strength Superhero!

Your strengths make you unique and powerful.

Use them to make a positive impact at home, with friends, and everywhere you go!

Conclude by previewing the journal activity and emphasizing that actively using their strengths makes a difference. Encourage them to be proud of who they are and the positive impact they can have.
