Your Future, Your Strengths!
Discovering your amazing talents and building a bright future.
Ready to unlock your potential?
Welcome the student warmly. Introduce the topic by asking about something they enjoy or are good at. Set a positive and encouraging tone for the session.
What Are Strengths, Anyway?
Strengths aren't just about what you're 'good at' in school.
They are your natural talents, abilities, and qualities that help you succeed and feel good!
- What comes easily to you?
- What do you enjoy doing?
- What do others say you're good at?
Explain what strengths are in simple terms. Emphasize that everyone has unique strengths, not just 'school smarts.' Ask the student for their initial thoughts on what a 'strength' means.
Kinds of Strengths
Strengths come in all shapes and sizes!
- Academic: Problem-solving, reading, writing, research, math
- Personal: Kindness, resilience, honesty, creativity, leadership, humor
- Social: Communication, teamwork, empathy, listening, connecting with others
- Practical: Organization, planning, hands-on skills, technology, sports
Go through each category, providing a brief example. Ask the student if any of these categories immediately resonate with them or if they can think of an example for themselves in each. Refer to the worksheet.
Let's Find YOUR Strengths!
Grab your My Strengths & Future Worksheet!
- Think about the different categories.
- What are your top 3-5 strengths?
- Write them down and give an example for each.
This is where the student will engage with the first part of the worksheet. Encourage them to write down specific examples. Provide positive reinforcement for their ideas. Prompt them with questions if they struggle: 'When did you feel really proud of something you did?' 'What's a challenge you overcame?'
Strengths + Future = Success!
Your strengths aren't just cool traits; they're superpowers for your future!
- How can your strengths help you achieve your goals?
- Think about school, career, hobbies, or personal life.
Connect their identified strengths to how they can be used for future goals. Use an example, e.g., 'If you're strong in communication, how could that help you in a job interview or leading a team?'
Dream Big, Plan Smart
What does a successful future look like for you?
- Where do you see yourself in 1 year? 5 years?
- What small step can you take today to move towards that future?
- Use your strengths to guide your path!
Guide them through the second part of the worksheet. Emphasize that this doesn't have to be a rigid plan, but a hopeful vision. Help them break down a big dream into a small, first step.
You've Got This!
Your strengths are real. Your future is bright.
Believe in yourself, and keep growing!
- What's one new thing you learned about yourself today?
Offer final words of encouragement. Remind them that self-discovery is a journey. Reiterate their unique value and potential. Thank them for their participation.

Your Future, Your Strengths Script
Introduction & Warm-Up (2 minutes)
Teacher: "Hey [Student's Name], thanks for coming in today. I'm really excited to chat with you about something important: you! We're going to spend about 15 minutes thinking about what makes you awesome and how you can use those amazing qualities to build an even better future for yourself.
To get us started, I want to ask you a quick question: What's one thing you're naturally good at, even if it feels small or silly? It could be anything – maybe you're great at video games, or you always know how to make people laugh, or you're good at fixing things around the house? Don't overthink it, just tell me the first thing that comes to mind."
Listen to student's response, offer positive affirmation.
Teacher: "That's a fantastic example! See, that's exactly what we're talking about when we say 'strengths.' It's those things that come a little easier to you, or that you enjoy doing. Today, we're going to dig a little deeper into those."
Discovering Strengths (5 minutes)
Teacher: "Let's take a look at our slides for a moment. (Refer to Your Strengths, Your Future Slide Deck, Slide 2: 'What Are Strengths, Anyway?') As it says here, strengths are your natural talents, abilities, and qualities. They're what make you, you.
(Advance to Your Strengths, Your Future Slide Deck, Slide 3: 'Kinds of Strengths') We often think of strengths only in terms of academics, but they're so much more! Look at these categories: Academic, Personal, Social, Practical. Do any of these jump out at you right away?"
Allow student to respond, prompt with examples if needed.
Teacher: "Okay, now let's grab your My Strengths & Future Worksheet. We're going to focus on the first section: 'My Super Strengths!' (Advance to Your Strengths, Your Future Slide Deck, Slide 4: 'Let's Find YOUR Strengths!') Take a few minutes to list 3-5 strengths you genuinely feel you possess. For each one, try to give a quick example of when you used it. It could be from school, your hobbies, with friends, or at home."
Provide gentle guidance, examples if the student struggles (e.g., "Remember when you mentioned being good at X? That sounds like a practical strength!"), and positive encouragement. Allow them to write.
Teacher: "Wow, these are some really solid strengths, [Student's Name]! I can see how [mention one strength] really shines through when [mention their example]. That's powerful stuff!"
Envisioning the Future (5 minutes)
Teacher: "Now, let's think about how these amazing strengths can be like superpowers for your future! (Advance to Your Strengths, Your Future Slide Deck, Slide 5: 'Strengths + Future = Success!') Your strengths aren't just for now; they are tools you'll use to build the life you want.
On your My Strengths & Future Worksheet, let's move to the 'My Future Vision' section. (Advance to Your Strengths, Your Future Slide Deck, Slide 6: 'Dream Big, Plan Smart') I want you to dream a little. What does a successful future look like for you? Where do you see yourself in, let's say, 1 year? And then maybe 5 years? Think about what you'd be doing, how you'd be feeling, what kind of person you'd be. And importantly, how can one of your strengths help you get there?"
Encourage brainstorming. Help the student connect a specific strength to a future goal. For instance, if they listed creativity, ask, "How could your creativity help you in that dream job or hobby?" If they struggle with a specific future vision, start with general feelings, e.g., "What kind of feeling do you want to have about your life?"
Teacher: "That's a really exciting vision, [Student's Name]! I love how you connected [mention a strength] to [mention a future aspiration]. That shows real insight. Now, for the last part of this section: What's one small step you can take this week or month that moves you even just a little closer to that future? It doesn't have to be huge – just a starting point."
Help them identify a concrete, manageable first step.
Wrap-Up & Encouragement (3 minutes)
Teacher: "Alright, [Student's Name], we're almost out of time, but I hope this conversation has been helpful. Looking at your My Strengths & Future Worksheet, you've got some incredible qualities like [reiterate a strength] and a clear idea of [reiterate a future goal].
(Advance to Your Strengths, Your Future Slide Deck, Slide 7: 'You've Got This!') Remember, your strengths are real, and your future is absolutely bright. You have what it takes to achieve great things. Keep believing in yourself, keep using those amazing talents, and keep taking those small steps forward.
What's one thing you'll take away from our chat today?"
Listen and affirm.
Teacher: "Fantastic. It was great talking with you. I'm really looking forward to seeing what you accomplish!"
