Seventh Grade Send-Off Lesson Plan

Students will reflect on their 7th grade experiences by identifying key highlights and challenges, celebrate as a class, and set personal and academic goals for the upcoming year to foster self-awareness and optimism.

This lesson closes the year on a positive note, strengthens classroom community, builds self-awareness, and empowers students to set goals, boosting motivation and confidence for next year.

5 minutes

  • Print one copy of Reflection Worksheet for each student
  • Print one copy of Goal-Setting Graphic Organizer for each student
  • Hang chart paper in a visible area and place markers nearby
  • Prepare stacks of sticky notes for student use
  • Review both materials to familiarize yourself with the prompts

Step 1

Welcome & Warm-Up

2 minutes

  • Greet students and introduce the purpose of the send-off session
  • Pose the question: “What’s one standout memory from this year?”
  • Distribute sticky notes; have each student jot a highlight and place it on the chart paper

Step 2

Reflection Activity

5 minutes

  • Hand out the Reflection Worksheet
  • Students individually complete sections for memorable moments, challenges overcome, and proud achievements
  • Encourage concise and honest reflections

Step 3

Celebration Share-Out

4 minutes

  • In pairs or small groups, students share one highlight from their worksheets
  • Invite volunteers to share with the whole class
  • Record shared highlights on chart paper to celebrate collective achievements

Goal-Setting

3 minutes

  • Distribute the Goal-Setting Graphic Organizer
  • Students write one academic and one personal goal for next year using SMART criteria
  • Remind students to be specific, measurable, and achievable

  • Lead a brief celebratory clap or play a short encouraging sound

Warm-Up: Standout Memory

Think of one standout memory from this year.

Write it on a sticky note and place it on the chart paper.

Pose the warm-up question and hand out sticky notes. Circulate as students write and post their memories.
