Step 1

Divide students into small groups. Provide each group with a set of Printable Language Cards, each with different words or phrases. Ask the groups to categorize the cards into 'Appropriate' and 'Inappropriate' for different contexts, such as speaking to a teacher, talking to friends, or during a formal event. Allow Spanish-speaking students to discuss and categorize in Spanish if necessary.

Class Discussion

Reconvene as a class and discuss the group activity. Ask each group to explain their categorization. Use the Discussion Questions attachment to guide the conversation, ensuring all students (including Spanish-speaking students) have the opportunity to share their thoughts.

5 mins

Summarize the key points from the discussion. Emphasize the importance of being mindful of the language we use and how it affects others. Encourage students to practice using appropriate language in various contexts throughout the week.
