Lesson Plan

Winter Wellness Wheel: Daily Self-Care

Students will identify and practice at least three self-care activities for their bodies and minds. They will also create a personal "wellness wheel" to visually represent their healthy habits, fostering independence and self-awareness.

Teaching self-care at a young age helps students build essential life skills for managing emotions, promoting physical health, and developing a positive self-image. It empowers them to take an active role in their own well-being.

Winter Wellness Wheel!

Taking care of YOU, every day!

Welcome students and set a positive tone. Ask them what makes them happy or feel good.

What is Self-Care?

Self-care means taking good care of yourself!

It's about doing things that make your body and mind feel happy and healthy.

Explain self-care in simple terms. Use analogies like charging a phone or watering a plant.

Why is Self-Care Important?

When we take care of ourselves, we can:

  • Feel strong and energetic!
  • Be happy and calm.
  • Learn new things easily.
  • Be kind to others.

Discuss why self-care is important for kids. Relate it to feeling good, being strong, and learning well.

Caring for Our Bodies: Healthy Fuel!

What we eat gives our bodies energy to run, play, and think!

  • Eat yummy fruits and veggies!
  • Drink lots of water!

Introduce the first aspect of physical self-care: healthy eating. Ask students about their favorite healthy foods.

Caring for Our Bodies: Move It!

Moving our bodies helps us stay strong and makes us feel good!

  • Run and jump!
  • Dance to your favorite music!
  • Play outside!

Discuss movement and exercise. Ask what kind of activities they enjoy.

Caring for Our Bodies: Sweet Dreams!

Our bodies need rest to grow and be ready for a new day.

  • Go to bed at a good time.
  • Read a quiet book before sleeping.

Emphasize the importance of sleep. Ask how they feel when they don't get enough sleep.

Caring for Our Minds: Smart & Calm!

Our minds need care too, to learn and feel peaceful.

  • Read a fun book!
  • Draw or color.
  • Spend time with family and friends.

Shift to mental self-care. Talk about activities that help their minds grow and relax. Ask what they like to do to calm down.

Your Wellness Wheel!

Imagine a wheel with different sections.
Each section can be a way you take care of yourself!

What will your wheel look like?

Explain the wellness wheel concept. Show an example of how each section can have a different self-care activity.
