Winter Kindness Challenge

Promote empathy and kindness

In this lesson, students will brainstorm small acts of kindness they can perform over the winter break. This activity encourages empathy, positive social interactions, and strengthens community ties as students look forward to sharing their experiences. By focusing on kindness, students will develop a sense of responsibility and community awareness.

Step 1

Introduction

5 mins

  • Begin by discussing the concept of kindness and why it is important, especially during the winter season.
  • Ask students to share any recent acts of kindness they have experienced or performed.

Step 2

Brainstorming Session

10 mins

  • Distribute post-it notes and markers to each student.
  • Ask students to think of small acts of kindness they can do over the winter break.
  • Encourage them to write one idea per post-it note.

Step 3

Sharing and Discussion

5 mins

  • Have students place their post-it notes on a board or wall.
  • Use the Kindness Discussion Guide to facilitate a discussion about the ideas shared.
  • Encourage students to ask questions and share their thoughts on each other's ideas.

Step 4

Closure

5 mins

  • Distribute the Winter Kindness Ideas Worksheet.
  • Ask students to select a few ideas from the board and write them down on their worksheet.
  • Encourage students to take the worksheet home and try to complete as many acts of kindness as possible over the break.
