Outline the objectives clearly. Emphasize that it’s okay to feel sad and that sharing helps.

What Is Grief?

Grief is the natural reaction to losing someone or something important.

Examples:

• Feeling sad after a big change

Ask students what they think grief means. Guide them toward the definition.

Recognizing Feelings

Direct students’ attention to the poster on the wall. Explain how to use it to label and express emotions.

Emotion Sharing Activity

  2. Write or draw a time you felt sad or missed someone.
  3. Add a sticky note with one word that describes your feeling.

Coping Strategy 1: Deep Breathing

From the Grief Coping Strategies Handout:
• Inhale for 4 counts
