Understanding personal strengths and interests is vital for making informed decisions about future education and career. This lesson helps students build self-awareness and visualize their potential contributions to the world.

Prep
Preparation
15 minutes
- Review the Discover Your Career Superpower Slide Deck and familiarize yourself with the content.
- Print enough copies of the Interest Inventory Worksheet for each student.
- Prepare an area for students to engage in the Career Match-Up Activity.
- Ensure access to a projector or smartboard.
- Review the Superpower Career Exploration Plan to ensure understanding of all steps.
Step 1
Introduction & Hook: What's Your Superpower?
10 minutes
- Begin by presenting the 'What's Your Superpower Career Match?' lesson title and description.
- Use the first few slides of the Discover Your Career Superpower Slide Deck to introduce the concept of 'superpowers' as unique strengths and talents.
- Facilitate a brief class discussion: 'If you had a career superpower, what would it be and why?' (5 minutes)
- Explain that today, students will identify their real-life 'superpowers' and see how they can connect to exciting career paths. (2 minutes)
Step 2
Discovering Your Superpowers: Interest Inventory
15 minutes
- Distribute the Interest Inventory Worksheet.
- Guide students through the worksheet, explaining each section and encouraging honest self-reflection.
- Emphasize that there are no right or wrong answers, and the goal is to understand themselves better.
- Allow students to complete the worksheet individually. Circulate to offer assistance and answer questions. (10 minutes)
Step 3
Connecting Superpowers to Careers: Group Activity
20 minutes
- Divide students into small groups (3-4 students per group).
- Introduce the Career Match-Up Activity. Explain that they will discuss their identified strengths and interests within their groups and brainstorm careers that align with those 'superpowers.'
- Provide examples of how different strengths (e.g., problem-solving, creativity, empathy) can relate to various career fields.
- Have each group select one or two group members' superpowers and present a brainstormed career match to the class. (10 minutes for discussion, 10 minutes for sharing)
Step 4
Wrap-Up & Reflection
15 minutes
- Bring the class back together.
- Distribute the Career Superpower Reflection Journal.
- Instruct students to complete the journal as an exit ticket or for homework, reflecting on their learning and next steps.
- Reiterate the importance of self-awareness in career exploration and encourage students to continue thinking about their unique contributions.
