Introduction & Hook (3 minutes)

(Teacher): "Good morning, everyone! Let's start with a quick thought. Imagine you're facing a tricky situation – maybe you're feeling stressed about a test, having a tough time with a friend, or just trying to figure out your next steps after high school. Who do you usually turn to for support or advice? You don't have to share out loud, just think about it for a moment.

Today, we're going to talk about a really cool resource right here at Warren Township High School that's all about support: our student support groups! These aren't just for when things go wrong; they're fantastic opportunities to learn, grow, and connect with other students who might be experiencing similar things or have similar interests."

Why Support Groups? (Slide 2) (2 minutes)

(Teacher): "So, what exactly are support groups? Think of them as safe, confidential spaces where you can explore challenges, learn new skills, and connect with your peers. They're designed to help you feel understood, build confidence, and give you tools to navigate all sorts of situations, both in school and out."

(Transition to What's Your Crew? Slide Deck - Slide 2: "Why Support Groups?")

Our Support Crew: Part 1 (Slide 3) (2 minutes)

  • Cultural Awareness & Inclusion (EL): This group is a wonderful space to explore different cultures, understand diverse perspectives, and help build an even more welcoming school community.
  • Goal-Setting for Boys: For our male students, this group focuses on developing clear goals and effective strategies to achieve success, whatever that looks like for you.

(Transition to What's Your Crew? Slide Deck - Slide 5: "Our Support Crew: Part 3")

Support Group Exploration (Worksheet & Discussion) (3 minutes)

(Teacher): "Now, I'm going to hand out a quick worksheet called the Support Group Exploration Worksheet. Please take a moment to look over the groups listed and think about which ones might interest you, or perhaps a friend you know. There's no right or wrong answer, just an opportunity to see what's available.

(Distribute Support Group Exploration Worksheet. Give students 1-2 minutes to silently read and mark groups of interest.)

(Teacher): "Alright, let's briefly discuss. Based on what we've reviewed, what's one thing you found interesting about these groups? Or, without sharing personal details, can anyone share how knowing about these resources might be helpful for themselves or others? Remember, these are confidential spaces, and learning more is easy. You can always talk to your school counselor, a trusted teacher, or check the school website for more details.

(Allow for 1-2 student responses if time permits, then collect worksheets.)

(Teacher): "Thank you all for listening and thinking about these important resources today. Don't forget, there's a whole crew here to support you at Warren Township High School!"
