Discovering Your Creative Method

Today we'll explore different creative processes that artists use. Remember, there is no right or wrong way to be creative!

Introduce the concept of creativity and highlight that each person has a unique way of thinking and making art. Encourage students to think about the ways they create and express themselves. Ask guiding questions like 'What makes your art special?'

Examples of Creative Processes

  • Drawing & Sketching
  • Painting
  • Sculpture
  • Digital Art

Each method offers unique ways to express your ideas.

Showcase examples of various creative processes (e.g., drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art). Mention that these are just examples, and students are encouraged to mix and match techniques.

Art Therapy and Self-Expression

Art therapy uses creativity as a way to express emotions and work through difficult feelings. Every creative method is a personal journey.

Provide an overview of art therapy and its benefits in self-expression. Connect this with how creativity can be a tool to express emotions and relieve stress.

Reflecting on Your Creative Process

Think about the art activities you've done in class. Which method felt the most 'you'? Share with a classmate or write it down!

Offer a reflective prompt for students, encouraging them to think about the creative process that resonates with them the most.

Your Unique Creative Journey

Remember, every creative process is unique. Embrace what makes your art special and continue exploring new ways to express yourself!

Conclude with a reminder about the value of all types of creativity and reinforce that everyone's creative expression is important.

Creative Process Exploration Activity

Overview

Welcome to the Creative Process Exploration Activity! Today you will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of art materials and discover your own unique way of creating art. There are no right or wrong answers—this is all about exploring and expressing your creativity!

Instructions

  1. Set Up Your Space:

    • Find a comfortable spot at your work table.
    • Make sure you have access to all the art supplies provided.
  2. Explore Different Materials:

    • Take some time to look at each of the materials. How does each one feel? What colors and textures do you notice?
    • Experiment with using more than one material at a time (for example, combine crayons and watercolors).
  3. Create Your Art:

    • Choose one idea or mix several ideas together. What image or feeling would you like to express today?
    • Work on your piece. Remember, your creative process is special to you, so feel free to try different techniques as you work.
  4. Reflect on Your Process:

    • When you finish, think about the following questions:
      • Which material did you enjoy using the most and why?

      • Did you discover a new way to use any of the materials?

      • How did mixing different materials change the way you created your art?

    • Write your thoughts down on a paper or share them with a partner.

Follow-Up Discussion

  • Share Your Experience: After creating your piece, we will come together in a group. You can share what you made and describe your creative process.
  • Reflect Together: Discuss as a class what diverse creative processes look like and how using different materials affected your art. This is a chance to learn from each other and celebrate the unique way every one of us creates!

Student Reflection

After the group discussion, take a few moments to reflect on your creative journey:

  • Write down or draw a visual representation of your creative process.

  • Answer this prompt: What did you learn about yourself as an artist during this activity?

  • How might you use what you've discovered today in future art projects?

Share your reflections with a classmate or keep them as a personal journal to look back on later.
