Step 1

Welcome and Warm-Up: Feeling Check-In

5 minutes

  • Display What's That Feeling? Slide Deck - Slide 1.
    * Teacher Script: "Good morning, wonderful learners! Today, we're going to become feeling detectives! We'll look at faces to figure out how people might be feeling. Let's start with a quick check-in. How are YOU feeling right now? Give me a thumbs up if you're happy, a thumbs in the middle if you're so-so, and a thumbs down if you're feeling a little grumpy. No wrong answers, just checking in!"
    * Lead a brief class discussion about different feelings and why they might feel that way, emphasizing that all feelings are okay.

Step 2

Story Time and Discussion: Seeing Feelings

7 minutes

  • Display What's That Feeling? Slide Deck - Slide 2 through What's That Feeling? Slide Deck - Slide 4.
    * Teacher Script: "Now, let's look at some special feeling faces. When we see someone's face, we can often guess how they feel!"
    * Go through each emotion slide (happy, sad, angry). For each slide:
    * Ask students: "What do you see on this face? What clues tell you this person is feeling [happy/sad/angry]?" (e.g., smiling mouth, eyebrows down, tears).
    * Discuss what makes people feel that emotion.
    * Encourage students to make the face themselves. "Can you make a happy face? How about a sad face? An angry face?"

Step 3

Feelings Face Activity: Draw Your Feelings

6 minutes

  • Display What's That Feeling? Slide Deck - Slide 5.
    * Distribute the Feeling Faces Worksheet and crayons/markers.
    * Teacher Script: "Now it's YOUR turn to be an artist and show us feelings! On your worksheet, you'll see some blank faces. Your job is to draw the faces to show happy, sad, and angry. Remember the clues we talked about! What does a happy mouth look like? What do sad eyes do? How do angry eyebrows look?"
    * Circulate and assist students, providing prompts and encouragement.

Step 4

Reflection and Sharing: Our Feeling Faces

2 minutes

  • Teacher Script: "Wow, look at all these amazing feeling faces! Who would like to share one of their feeling faces and tell us about it? What did you draw for happy? What about sad or angry?"
    * Allow 2-3 students to briefly share their worksheets and explain their drawings.
    * Teacher Script: "Remember, it's good to notice feelings in ourselves and others. When we know how someone feels, we can be good friends and help each other. Great job, feeling detectives!"
