Prep

Review Materials

10 minutes

Step 1

Introduction to Self-Monitoring (5 minutes)

5 minutes

  • Begin by asking students what they think 'self-monitoring' means in the context of their learning.
    - Introduce the idea that taking responsibility for their own behavior can help them succeed.
    - Use the Weekly Behavior Tracker Slide Deck to present the concept of the behavior tracker.

Step 2

Explaining the Tracker (10 minutes)

10 minutes

  • Distribute the Weekly Behavior Tracker Sheet to each student.
    - Go through each section of the tracker sheet using the Weekly Behavior Tracker Slide Deck, explaining:
    • The purpose of tracking each behavior (phone policy, language, attending class, following directions).
    • How to mark '✓' or 'X' for each period.
    • The importance of honest self-assessment.
    • How to complete the 'Daily Reflection' section.

Step 3

Guided Practice & Q&A (10 minutes)

10 minutes

  • Lead a brief guided practice. Ask students to imagine a hypothetical scenario for Period 1 on Monday and how they would mark their sheet.
    - Encourage questions and clarify any misunderstandings.
    - Emphasize that this is a tool for personal growth, not punishment.
    - Discuss the 'Weekly Summary' section and how it can be used for setting goals.

Step 4

Wrap-Up and Expectations (5 minutes)

5 minutes

  • Remind students to keep their trackers safe and to fill them out honestly each day.
    - Explain when and how the trackers will be reviewed (e.g., collected on Friday, discussed individually if needed).
    - Conclude by reiterating the benefits of self-monitoring for their academic success.

Weekly Behavior Tracker: Own Your Learning

Your Path to Success Starts Here!

Welcome students and introduce the concept of the tracker as a tool for personal growth.

What is Self-Monitoring?

  • Paying attention to your own actions
  • Understanding how your choices impact your learning
  • Taking responsibility for your behavior

Ask students what 'self-monitoring' means to them. Explain it's about being aware of their own actions and choices.

Why Track Your Behavior?

  • Increase self-awareness
  • Identify areas for improvement
  • Become a more responsible learner
  • Help create a better learning environment for everyone!

Discuss the benefits of tracking behavior for individual students and the classroom as a whole.

Your Weekly Behavior Tracker!

Today, we're introducing a tool to help you do just that: The Weekly Behavior Tracker Sheet!

This is YOUR personal record for the week.

Introduce the physical tracker sheet (Weekly Behavior Tracker Sheet) and explain that it's their personal record.

Understanding the Expectations

  • Phone Policy Adherence: Is your phone away and unused during class?
  • Appropriate Language: Are you speaking respectfully to everyone?
  • Attending Class: Are you present and engaged in the lesson?
  • Following Directions: Are you listening and following instructions from your teachers?

Go through each behavior category, defining what it means in the classroom context.

How to Use Your Tracker

  • For each period, mark '✓' if you met the expectation, or 'X' if you didn't.
  • Be honest with yourself!
  • At the end of each day, complete the Daily Reflection.
  • At the end of the week, complete the Weekly Summary.

Explain the checkmark and 'X' system. Emphasize honesty and the purpose of the daily reflection.

Let's Practice!

Scenario: During Period 1, you kept your phone put away, used appropriate language, were engaged, and followed directions. How would you mark your sheet?

What if you used your phone for a quick text in Period 2? How would that change your marks?

Provide a simple scenario for students to practice marking their sheet.

Your Commitment to Growth

This tracker is here to support YOUR learning journey.

By self-monitoring, you're building habits for success inside and outside the classroom.

Let's make this a great week of growth!

Conclude by reiterating the benefits and encouraging consistent use.
