Slide Deck

Welcome to the Vowel Expedition

Today, we are going on a safari to discover long and short vowel sounds!

Let's get started on our adventure.

Introduce the slide deck as your visual guide for the vowel safari. Point out the illustrations and examples that depict long and short vowel sounds. Engage the student by asking what they observe about each slide.

Short Vowel Sounds

Short vowels are quick sounds, like in the words: bat, pet, hit, cot, and cup.

Explain the characteristic of short vowel sounds with simple examples. Encourage the student to repeat the sounds and identify the vowel in each word.

Long Vowel Sounds

Long vowels say their name! Examples include: bake, Pete, like, note, and mule.

Discuss long vowel sounds with similar enthusiasm. Present examples and ask questions such as, 'Which word shows a long vowel sound?' to promote interactive learning.

Review and Recap

Let’s review:

  • Short vowels: quick sounds
  • Long vowels: sound like the vowel's name

Can you give me one example of each?

Summarize the main differences and similarities, and recapitulate the objectives. Use this slide as a review and check for understanding.
