Practice a little bit on your own later, it takes some getting used to!"

Your First Vector Landscape!

English:

Objective:

Create a basic vector landscape scene in Adobe Illustrator using the Pen Tool, Shape Tools, and Pathfinder.

Instructions:

1. Open Adobe Illustrator: Start a new document (File > New). You can use any size, but a standard Artboard size like Letter or Web is a good start.
2. Create a Sky: Use the Rectangle Tool to draw a large rectangle that covers the top half or two-thirds of your artboard. This will be your sky. Fill it with a light blue color.
3. Draw a Ground/Horizon: Use the Pen Tool to draw a wavy or slightly bumpy line across the lower part of your artboard, connecting from one side to the other. Close the path to create a shape. Fill it with a green or brown color for grass or ground.
4. Add Hills/Mountains (Pathfinder - Unite):
   • Use the Pen Tool or Ellipse Tool to draw a few overlapping shapes for hills or mountain peaks.
   • Select all the shapes you want to combine for your hill/mountain.
   • Open the Pathfinder panel (Window > Pathfinder) and click Unite.
   • Fill your new combined shape with a darker green or gray color.
5. Create a Sun or Moon (Ellipse Tool):
   • Select the Ellipse Tool.
   • Hold Shift and drag to draw a perfect circle for your sun or moon. Place it in the sky.
   • Fill it with yellow for a sun or light gray/white for a moon.
6. Optional: Add a River or Pond (Pathfinder - Minus Front):
   • Draw a shape for your ground (if you haven't already).
   • Draw a wavy or irregular shape on top of your ground where you want the river/pond to be.
   • Select both the ground shape and the river/pond shape.
   • In the Pathfinder panel, click Minus Front to cut the river shape out of the ground. Fill the new river shape with a blue color.
7. Save Your Work: Go to File > Save As and save your Illustrator file (.ai) with a descriptive name like "MyVectorLandscape.ai".

Challenge:

• Try adding simple trees using the Rectangle Tool for the trunk and the Ellipse Tool (then Unite!) for the canopy.
• Experiment with different colors and gradients.
