Value Quest

Finding School Value, Building Confidence & Tolerance for Frustration

Welcome everyone! Introduce today’s lesson: Value Quest. Explain that over the next 30 minutes, students will explore how to find personal value in school tasks, build confidence, and learn to tolerate frustration when they face challenges.

Lesson Objectives

• Identify personal value in school tasks
• Boost confidence by reflecting on past successes
• Develop strategies to tolerate frustration

Read through the objectives aloud. Emphasize that these goals will help improve motivation and perseverance both in class and beyond.

Introduction: Share a Challenge

  1. Think of a recent challenging task you faced in school.
  2. Write it down on a sticky note or tell a partner.
  3. Be ready to share one example with the class.

Explain this first activity. Ask students to think quietly for 1 minute, then share with a partner or the group.

Value Mapping Activity

• Use the Value Mapping Worksheet.
• Choose one challenging subject or task.
• List personal interests, goals, or long-term plans.
• Draw arrows linking each goal to why the task matters.

Distribute the Value Mapping Worksheet. Circulate and ask probing questions: “How does this skill connect to your goals?”

Goal Connection Poster

• Refer to the Goal Connection Poster.
• As a group, pick one example challenge.
• Write the challenge, value, and strategy on sticky notes.
• Place notes in each column and discuss.

Display the chart labeled Challenge, Value, Strategy. Invite volunteers to fill in stickies and explain their thinking.

Confidence Reflection

• Write one recent success in school and how it made you feel.
• Identify one strategy you’ll use next time you feel stuck.

Hand out the Confidence Reflection Journal. Encourage honest reflection and remind students this is private unless they choose to share.

Wrap-Up & Reflection

• What new connections did you make today?
