Resilience Building Roadmap

Participants will learn strategies to build long-term resilience through healthy habits, mindset shifts, and leveraging social support; by the end, they will map their support network and create a personalized action plan to bounce back stronger from adversity.

Building resilience is key to managing stress, maintaining mental well-being, and navigating life’s challenges effectively. This lesson empowers adults to adopt sustainable habits, shift their mindset, and activate their social networks for lasting psychological strength.

  • Review the Bounce Back Stronger slide deck to familiarize yourself with key concepts and case studies.
  • Print copies of the Support System Mapping worksheets for each participant.
  • Print or prepare blank Resilience Action Plan templates.
  • Set up the projector and test the slide deck before participants arrive.
  • Arrange seating in a semi-circle or small groups to facilitate discussion.

Introduction & Objectives

  • Welcome participants and introduce yourself and the seminar topic.
  • Share the session objectives: understanding resilience, mapping support networks, and creating action plans.
  • Briefly review the agenda and expected outcomes.
  • Invite participants to share one expectation or challenge related to resilience.

Resilience Foundations Presentation

  • Ask participants to list individuals, groups, and resources that provide emotional, practical, and informational support.
  • In small groups, have participants share their maps and identify strengths and gaps.
  • Facilitate a short group discussion on strategies to expand and strengthen their support networks.

  • Return to the Bounce Back Stronger for case-study examples.
  • Break participants into pairs and assign a sample adversity scenario.
  • In pairs, apply resilience strategies—habits, mindset techniques, and support activation—to the scenario.
  • Reconvene and ask each pair to share one key strategy and lesson learned.

Resilience Action Plan Creation

  • Introduce the Resilience Action Plan worksheet and SMART goal framework.
  • Guide participants to set 2–3 specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound resilience goals.
  • Encourage inclusion of lifestyle habits, mindset practices, and social support actions.
