Get Ready to Multiply by 2!
It's time to become a multiplication master!
Welcome students and introduce the exciting topic of mastering 2s times tables. Emphasize that it's about making math faster and easier!
What Does 'Multiply by 2' Mean?
It's Like Doubling!
- When you multiply a number by 2, you are finding two groups of that number.
- It's the same as adding the number to itself.
- It's also like skip counting by 2s!
Example:
2 x 3 = 3 + 3 = 6
or
2, 4, 6 (3 fingers up)
Explain that multiplying by 2 is like 'doubling' a number or 'skip counting by 2s'. Give a few simple examples verbally and ask students to provide more.
Let's Practice Our Twos!
