(Display Slide 1: Track Your Roar!)
"Good morning, everyone! Today we are going to talk about something really exciting: how each of us can 'Track Your Roar!' What do I mean by 'roar'? I mean the amazing, positive energy and choices you bring to our classroom every single day!"
"Think about a lion. A lion's roar is powerful and strong. Your positive actions in class are just like that – powerful and strong! They help make our classroom a wonderful place to learn. But sometimes, even the strongest lions need to think about how they are roaring. So, how can we be our best selves every day? What does that 'awesome roar' look and sound like in our classroom?"
Pause for student responses, affirm positive contributions.
Understanding Behavior Logs (10 minutes)
(Display Slide 2: What's a Behavior Log?)
"Today, we're going to learn about a special tool that can help us track our 'roars' and become even better at being our best selves. It's called a behavior log. Has anyone heard of a behavior log before? What do you think it might be?"
Pause for student responses.
"That's right! A behavior log is like a personal diary for your actions. It's a way to keep track of the choices you make during the day. It helps you see what you do well – all those 'awesome roars!' – and it also helps you think about areas where you might want to improve. It’s not about getting into trouble; it’s about learning and growing!"
(Display Slide 3: Awesome Roars! (Positive Behaviors))
"Let's brainstorm some 'Awesome Roars' – these are positive behaviors that help our classroom be a fantastic place. For example, listening to the teacher, helping a classmate, staying on task, or sharing materials. What other great choices do you make that show your awesome roar?"
Write down student examples on the board. Praise their contributions.
(Display Slide 4: Quiet Roars? (Behaviors to Think About))
"Now, sometimes, even the best of us make choices that might need a little more thought or practice. Maybe it's talking when someone else is talking, or forgetting to raise a hand, or getting a little distracted during work time. We can call these 'quiet roars' – not bad, just areas to reflect on. It's totally okay! We learn from every choice, whether it's an awesome roar or a quiet roar."
My Behavior Reflection Worksheet (10 minutes)
(Display Slide 5: My Behavior Reflection Time)
"Now it’s your turn to be the behavior detective! I'm going to hand out a worksheet called the My Behavior Reflection Worksheet. You'll get to write down some of your 'awesome roars' and also think about any 'quiet roars' and how you might make them even louder and more positive next time."
"Take your time, think carefully, and be honest with yourselves. This is your tool to help you grow. I will be walking around if you have any questions."
Distribute the worksheets and allow students to work independently. Circulate and provide support as needed.
Share and Discuss (5 minutes)
(Display Slide 6: Grow Your Roar!)
"Alright, class, who would like to share one 'awesome roar' they identified on their worksheet? Why is that behavior important for our classroom?"
