Introduction
-
"Hello [Student's Name], welcome! I'm excited to hear about your cherished item today. Can you please show me the item you brought and tell me a little bit about it?"
-
After the student shows the item:
"Thank you for sharing that. I see this item holds a special place for you. What makes this item so unique or important in your life?"
Guided Questions
-
"Can you tell me the story of how you first got this item? Where were you, and what was that moment like?"
-
"What memories do you associate with this item? Perhaps a specific event or a happy moment that you remember well?"
-
"How does this item make you feel when you look at it or think about it?"
-
"Has this item changed your life or influenced you in any way? If so, how?"
-
"Is there a particular lesson or value that you feel is connected to this item?"
Deepening the Conversation

- "How did that experience change the way you see things?"
- "What did you learn about yourself from that experience?"
Reflection and Closure
-
"Thank you for sharing your story with me. It sounds like this item is very important to you. Before we finish, is there anything else you'd like to add about why this item is so meaningful?"
-
"Great, now that we've shared all that, let's take a few moments to think about it all. I invite you to do some reflective journaling about what you learned about yourself from sharing this story. Feel free to write down any thoughts or feelings that come to mind."
Remember:
- Keep encouraging the student with verbal affirmations like "I understand," "That's very interesting," and "Thank you for sharing that with me."
- Allow pauses after questions so the student has time to think deeply and express themselves.
- Adjust your follow-up questions based on the student's responses, ensuring they feel heard and validated.
This script is here to guide you through the session, but feel free to let the conversation flow naturally if the student wants to explore a tangent. The goal is to help them articulate their feelings and memories associated with their cherished item while boosting their comfort with storytelling.
