Step 1

Introduction to Gratitude

5 minutes

  • Begin by discussing the concept of gratitude with the students.
  • Ask students to share what they think gratitude means and why it might be important.
  • Explain that today's activity will focus on expressing gratitude and building a community tree.

Step 2

Creating the Gratitude Leaves

15 minutes

  • Distribute paper leaves and markers to each student.
  • Instruct students to write down one or more things they are grateful for on their leaves.
  • Encourage creativity and personal reflection in their responses.

Step 3

Building the Gratitude Tree

10 minutes

  • Have students come up to the front and attach their leaves to the large paper or poster board, creating a tree shape.
  • As each student adds their leaf, they can share what they wrote if they feel comfortable.

10 minutes

  • Facilitate a discussion using the provided questions to reflect on the activity.
  • Encourage students to think about how gratitude can impact their daily lives and relationships.
