Compass Effect Individual Plan

Students will identify personal values and well-being goals, create a structured treatment plan, and establish tracking methods for ongoing self-monitoring.

Bolsters student self-awareness and ownership of mental health by providing practical frameworks for goal-setting and progress monitoring, fostering resilience and emotional growth.

Step 1

Introduction & Rapport Building

10 minutes

  • Greet the student and establish a safe, confidential atmosphere
  • Explain the session’s purpose using Slide 1 of Navigating Your Path Slides
  • Invite the student to share current feelings and session expectations

Step 2

Compass Assessment

10 minutes

  • Guide the student through the “Current Compass” prompts in the Personal Compass Journal
  • Identify personal strengths, values, and areas for growth
  • Discuss responses to deepen self-understanding

Step 3

SMART Goal Setting

15 minutes

  • Present the SMART framework on Slides 3–4 of Navigating Your Path Slides
  • Collaboratively draft 1–3 SMART goals in the journal
  • Ensure each goal is Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound

Step 4

Treatment Plan Development

15 minutes

  • Use the template in the Compass Effect Individual Plan to map interventions and action steps for each goal
  • Identify supports, resources, and check-in frequency
  • Document responsibilities and timelines clearly

Progress Tracking & Reflection

10 minutes

  • Introduce the Progress Tracker Worksheet and demonstrate logging milestones
  • Plan regular reflection prompts in the journal
  • Schedule the next check-in and encourage ongoing use of materials
