Encouraging thankfulness and positivity

This lesson encourages students to reflect on things they are thankful for and understand how gratitude can enhance positivity. Through an engaging activity and a guided discussion, students will explore the concept of thankfulness and its impact on their well-being. This lesson is important as it helps students develop a positive mindset, which can improve their emotional health and social interactions.

Step 1

Introduction

5 mins

  • Begin by asking students what it means to be thankful.

  • Explain that today, we will explore thankfulness and how it can make us feel more positive.

Step 2

Thankfulness Activity

15 mins

  • Distribute post-it notes and markers to each student.
  • Ask students to write down one thing they are thankful for on each post-it note.
  • Encourage them to think of different areas of their life (family, friends, school, etc.).
  • Once completed, have students place their notes on a designated 'Thankfulness Wall' or board.
  • Allow students to walk around and read what others have written.

Guided Discussion

  • Gather students in a circle and use the discussion questions to guide a conversation about thankfulness.
  • Encourage students to share their thoughts and listen to others.
