Prep

Lesson Preparation

5 minutes

Step 1

Warm-Up: How Do You Feel?

2 minutes

  1. Begin with a quick check-in using the 'How Do You Feel?' slide from the Teamwork Time Slide Deck.
    2. Ask students to show with their fingers (1-5) how they are feeling or choose a facial expression. Briefly discuss a few responses, emphasizing that all feelings are okay.

Step 2

Introduction: What is Self-Regulation?

3 minutes

  1. Display the 'What is Self-Regulation?' slide from the Teamwork Time Slide Deck.
    2. Explain self-regulation as 'being in charge of your own feelings and actions.' Give simple examples like taking a deep breath when frustrated or waiting for your turn.
    3. Discuss why this is important for learning and playing.

Step 3

Working Together

3 minutes

  1. Transition to the 'Working Together' slide from the Teamwork Time Slide Deck.
    2. Ask students: 'What does it mean to work together? Why is it important?'
    3. Introduce key ideas like sharing, listening, and taking turns. Connect these to self-regulation (e.g., waiting for your turn requires self-control).

Step 4

Activity: Self-Regulation Superstars

5 minutes

  1. Distribute the Self-Regulation Superstars Activity.
    2. Explain that students will draw or write one way they can self-regulate and one way they can work well with others.
    3. Circulate and provide support, encouraging sharing ideas with a partner.

Step 5

Cool Down: My Teamwork Goal

2 minutes

  1. Distribute the Exit Ticket: My Teamwork Goal.
    2. Ask students to quickly draw or write one goal they have for themselves about self-regulation or working with others.
    3. Collect the exit tickets as students leave or transition to the next activity.

Slide Deck

Welcome, Team!

Let's learn how to be awesome teammates!

Welcome students and set a positive tone. Explain that today we're talking about feelings and working together.

How Do You Feel Today?

Are you:
- Happy?
- Sad?
- Excited?
- Calm?
- A little sleepy?

Ask students to show with their fingers or by pointing to the slide how they are feeling right now. Emphasize that all feelings are okay and it's good to know how we feel.

What is Self-Regulation?

It means being in charge of your own feelings and actions!

  • Taking a deep breath
  • Counting to three
  • Thinking before you act

Why is this important?

Introduce self-regulation in simple terms. Give a concrete example of when they might use it, like taking a deep breath when they feel mad.

Working Together!

When we work together, we...

  • Share ideas
  • Listen to our friends
  • Take turns
  • Help each other!

Why is teamwork awesome?

Lead a brief discussion on what 'working together' looks like and why it's beneficial. Connect it back to self-regulation.

Activity Time: Self-Regulation Superstars

Draw or write:

  1. One way you can be in charge of your feelings.
  2. One way you can work well with others.

Explain the activity clearly. Students will work on the 'Self-Regulation Superstars Activity' worksheet.

My Teamwork Goal

Quick!
Draw or write one way you will try to be a better self-regulator or teammate today!

Explain the exit ticket. This helps students reflect on a personal goal related to the lesson.
