Activity

Group Activity Cards

These cards are designed to encourage teamwork and cooperation among 1st grade students. Each card outlines a simple task that can be completed as a group, fostering communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

How to Use the Cards

  1. Divide the Students: Form small groups of 3-4 students.

  2. Distribute Cards: Give each group one or more activity cards at random.

  3. Complete the Task: Have the groups work together to complete the task outlined on their card. Examples include:

    • Building a structure with blocks.
    • Creating a group drawing or collage.
    • Completing a simple puzzle collaboratively.
  4. Discuss as a Class: After the activities, gather the class to discuss what strategies worked best and how teamwork played a role in their success.

Example Card Task

  • Task: Build a 10-block tower together using only one hand each from every student.

  • Objective: Encourage cooperative problem-solving while highlighting the importance of listening and building together.

Remember, the key is to let students explore teamwork through fun, interactive tasks that can be completed within a classroom setting. The challenges should be age-appropriate and designed to build their confidence in working as a team.

Game

Friendship Game Instructions

The Friendship Game is designed to reinforce the importance of friendship and positive communication in a fun and interactive way. This game helps students learn to appreciate their classmates' unique qualities while practicing kindness and teamwork.

Setup

  1. Form a Circle: Arrange the students in a circle so everyone can see each other.
  2. Pass a Ball: Use a soft ball or beanbag that is safe for indoor play.

How to Play

  1. Start the Game: The teacher holds the ball and introduces the game, explaining that each time a student receives the ball, they must name one friend and share one kind trait or compliment about that friend.
  2. Passing the Ball: The teacher passes the ball to a student. That student then passes it on to a friend after sharing their compliment.
  3. Continued Interaction: Continue until every student has had a chance to speak and pass the ball.
  4. Reflection: Once the game is complete, hold a brief class discussion about how it felt to hear kind words from friends and how working together enhanced the game.

Tips for Success

  • Encourage students who are shy by providing gentle prompts or model a statement before the game begins.
  • Remind students to listen quietly while others share.
  • Ensure the game is played in a relaxed environment where everyone feels safe to express positive thoughts.

Enjoy the Friendship Game and celebrate the unique qualities of every classmate!
