Welcome, 3rd Graders!
Today we’ll celebrate our big achievements, share favorite memories, and get hyped for summer break!

Timing: 1 minute
Stand at the front, smile, and greet students as they settle. Explain that today is a special rally to celebrate the year and get excited for summer.

Lead the class in a loud, enthusiastic cheer. Use hand motions: clap, stomp, and cheer “Hip, hip, hooray!”

Raise your hand to share!

Timing: 4 minutes
Invite 3–4 volunteers to share one thing they accomplished this year—reading a chapter book, mastering multiplication, making a new friend, etc. Provide encouragement and applause between shares.

What was your favorite memory?

• A fun project? • A special field trip?
• A class event? • A new skill learned?

Turn and tell your partner!

Timing: 4 minutes
Ask students to think quietly for 30 seconds, then pair up with a neighbor to share. After a minute, call on a few pairs to share with the whole class.

Timing: 2 minutes
Play the video. Encourage students to clap or sway along. After it ends, ask: “How did that make you feel?”

Sunset Send-Off Lesson Plan

Celebrate student achievements, foster community spirit, and reflect on favorite memories in a 15-minute morning meeting, sending 3rd graders off with positivity and closure.

Finishing the year with recognition and reflection reinforces growth, strengthens class cohesion, and helps students feel proud of their accomplishments as they transition to summer.

  • Ensure classroom display (projector or interactive whiteboard) is powered on and connected.
  • Open Year-End Morning Rally Slides and queue to the first slide.
  • Test audio for the celebration song video on slide 5.
  • Arrange seating/standing area so all students can easily view the screen.

Warm Up

Gratitude Shout-Out Warm-Up

Objective: Encourage students to reflect on positive experiences from this school year and build community gratitude.

Time: 2 minutes

Materials: None

Instructions:

  1. Silent Reflection (30 seconds)
    Ask students to close their eyes (or look at their desk) and think of one thing they’re grateful for from this school year. It might be a friend, a fun project, a field trip, or something they learned.

  2. Gratitude Shares (1.5 minutes)
    - Invite 4–5 volunteers to stand in a “sharing circle.”
    - Each student says “I’m grateful for ___.”
    - After each share, the class responds with a single clap or a cheerful “Yay!”
    - If time remains, use a popcorn style: any student can share until you reach the 2-minute mark.

Transition: Lead into the rest of the meeting by celebrating the energy and positivity that gratitude brings. Then move directly into your first slide with a big welcome!

Objective: Let students individually reflect on their favorite moment of the year and why it mattered.
