Storytime Adventures

Engage students in active listening and comprehension.

Engage students in active listening through interactive storytelling. Children will listen to a short story and participate in a discussion about the characters and events.

Short Story Book, Discussion Questions Handout, and Character Cutouts

Step 1

Introduction

2 mins

  • Welcome the children to storytime.
  • Briefly explain that they will listen to a story and then talk about it.

Step 2

Reading the Story

10 mins

  • Read the short story to the students.
  • Show the pictures in the storybook as you read.

Step 3

Discussion

6 mins

  • Use the discussion questions to talk about the story.
  • Encourage students to share their thoughts and feelings about the characters and events.
  • Use character cutouts to help visualize the story and make the discussion interactive.

Step 4

Closure

2 mins

  • Summarize key points from the discussion.
  • Praise the students for their participation.
  • Encourage them to think about the story and the characters until next time.
