Storytelling for Connection

Build confidence through storytelling

In this lesson, students will engage in a storytelling session where each shares a personal story that made them feel proud. This activity emphasizes active listening and fosters appreciation of diverse experiences while building confidence in sharing personal narratives. By sharing and listening to stories, students will develop empathy and communication skills, which are essential for their social and emotional growth.

Step 1

Introduction

5 minutes

  • Begin with a brief discussion on the importance of storytelling and how it helps us connect with others.
  • Explain the objective of the session: to share a personal story that made them feel proud.

Step 2

Storytelling Activity

25 minutes

  • Divide students into small groups of 4-5.
  • Each student takes turns sharing their story with the group.
  • Encourage active listening by asking students to note down one thing they learned from each story on a post-it note.

Step 3

Reflection and Sharing

10 minutes

  • Reconvene as a whole class.
  • Invite a few volunteers to share what they learned from their peers' stories.
  • Discuss how listening to others' stories can help us appreciate different perspectives and experiences.
