Story Time Emotions

Improve emotional awareness

In this lesson, students will engage with a story that highlights various emotions. Through reading and discussing the story, students will identify different emotions and relate them to their own experiences. This lesson promotes emotional awareness and helps students recognize and understand their feelings.

Storybook with Emotional Themes, Markers or Crayons, Paper, Emotions Discussion Guide, and Emotions Drawing Worksheet

Step 1

Introduction

5 minutes

  • Gather students in a circle.
  • Briefly introduce the concept of emotions.
  • Explain the objective: to understand and identify different emotions through a story.

Step 2

Story Reading

10 minutes

  • Read the selected storybook aloud to the students.
  • Emphasize parts of the story that show clear emotions.
  • Encourage students to pay attention to how the characters are feeling.

Step 3

Discussion

7 minutes

  • Use the Emotions Discussion Guide to discuss the story.
  • Ask questions that prompt students to identify and describe the emotions of the characters.
  • Relate the emotions to situations in the students' own lives.

Step 4

Drawing Activity

7 minutes

  • Distribute the Emotions Drawing Worksheet and markers or crayons.
  • Ask students to draw a picture of themselves feeling one of the emotions discussed.
  • Allow students to share their drawings with the class if they feel comfortable.

Step 5

Closure

1 minute

  • Recap the emotions discussed in the story.
  • Remind students that it's okay to feel different emotions and share them with others.
  • Praise students for their participation and creativity.

Look for introductory emotions and ask students to describe them.
