Hygiene Habits Highlights

Building Healthy Routines for Life

Welcome everyone! Today we’re going to explore simple daily hygiene routines that help us stay healthy and confident. Let’s dive in and discover how small habits make a big difference.

Learning Objectives

• Identify five key hygiene routines
• Understand health benefits of each
• Learn tips for making habits stick

Review our goals so students know what to expect. Encourage them to think of questions as we go.

Brushing Your Teeth

• What: Brush twice daily for 2 minutes
• Benefits: Prevents cavities, freshens breath
• Tips: Use fluoride toothpaste and gentle circular motions

Ask: “Who brushes their teeth every morning and night?” Highlight common practices and explain why the 2-minute rule matters.

Handwashing

• What: Wash with soap & water for 20 seconds
• Benefits: Removes germs, prevents colds
• Tips: Scrub between fingers, under nails, and thumbs

Demonstrate a quick handwashing technique. Optionally play a 20-second song students can hum as they scrub.

Bathing & Showering

• What: Bathe or shower once daily
• Benefits: Removes dirt, controls odor
• Tips: Use mild soap; rinse thoroughly; focus on underarms & feet

Discuss frequency (“every day?”) and ask if anyone showers twice a day. Emphasize focus areas like underarms and feet.

Hair Care

• What: Wash, comb, and style regularly
• Benefits: Keeps scalp healthy, prevents tangles
• Tips: Choose gentle shampoo; detangle with care

Ask students to name hair products they use. Explain how a clean scalp promotes healthy growth.

Nail Care

• What: Trim nails weekly & clean underneath
• Benefits: Prevents infections, keeps hands neat
• Tips: Cut straight across; file rough edges

Show a pair of clippers and a nail brush. Emphasize safety when trimming.

Recap & Next Steps

• Brushing, handwashing, bathing, hair & nail care
• Think about your current habits
• Ready to map out your personal routine

Briefly recap each routine and set the stage for the next activity (tracking their own routines).

Warm-Up Activity: Hygiene Habits Poll

Kick off with a quick, interactive poll to gauge current student habits and spark interest.

  1. Launch the live poll and display results in real time.

How many times have you washed your hands so far today?

    • 0–1 times
    • 2–3 times
    • 4–5 times
    • More than 5 times
  2. Tooth Brushing Frequency
How often do you brush your teeth each day?

    • Once

After each question, highlight one key takeaway (e.g., “Most of us wash our hands 2–3 times — that’s great, but we can aim for 4–5, especially before meals!”).
