Step 1

Introduction

5 mins

Welcome the students and introduce the topic of staying active and healthy. Explain that today's session will include a discussion, a fun icebreaker, and a game to reinforce the concepts. Outline the objective: understanding and incorporating physical activity into daily routines.

Step 2

Beach Ball Toss Icebreaker

10 mins

  1. Write different questions or prompts on a beach ball (e.g., 'What's your favorite sport?', 'Name one healthy habit you practice').
  2. Students stand in a circle and toss the ball to each other.
  3. The student who catches the ball must answer the question closest to their right thumb.
  4. Continue tossing the ball until most students have had a turn.

Step 3

Discussion

20 mins

Lead a discussion using the provided questions to explore students' current habits, understanding, and attitudes towards physical activity. Encourage participation and sharing of personal experiences.

Step 4

Capture the Flag

20 mins

  1. Setup:

    • Divide students into two teams.
    • Designate boundaries and a 'flag' area for each team.
    • Place a flag (or any marker) in each team's designated area.
    • Set clear boundaries and rules for the game.
  2. Rules:

    • The objective is to capture the opposing team's flag and return it to your own territory without being tagged.
    • Players can be tagged by the opposing team if they enter their territory.
    • If tagged, players must freeze or return to a designated 'jail' area, depending on the agreed rules.
    • Teams can strategize ways to protect their flag and free their teammates from 'jail.'
  3. Gameplay:

    • Start the game and monitor to ensure all students are participating safely.
    • Encourage teamwork, strategy, and fair play.
    • After a set time (or when a team captures the flag), end the game and discuss the strategies used.
  4. Safety Considerations:

    • Ensure there is enough space and that the playing area is free of obstacles.
    • Remind students to play safely, respecting each other's space and avoiding rough play.

Step 5

Closure

5 mins

Wrap up the session by summarizing key points from the discussion and the game. Encourage students to share what they enjoyed and what they learned. Emphasize the importance of staying active and healthy in their daily lives.
