Learning common English phrases helps students participate in everyday conversations, understand native speakers better, and feel more confident speaking English outside the classroom.

- Review the Common Phrases Slide Deck and practice pronunciation of the phrases.
- Print copies of the Phrase Practice Worksheet for each student.
- Prepare the Exit Ticket Cool Down for distribution.

Step 1
Warm-Up: Phrase Match
5 minutes
- Begin by asking students: "What are some quick things you say when you meet someone new or need help?"
2. Display the first slide of the Common Phrases Slide Deck showing a few common greetings (e.g., "How are you?", "Nice to meet you.").
3. Have students quickly brainstorm responses with a partner for 1 minute.
4. Call on a few pairs to share their ideas. Introduce the idea that today, we'll learn some common phrases to make speaking English even easier.
Step 2
Introduce Common Phrases
10 minutes
- Go through the Common Phrases Slide Deck, introducing five new common English phrases (e.g., "No worries," "Got it," "My bad," "You're all set," "Long story short").
2. For each phrase:
- Display the phrase and its meaning.
- Provide an example sentence.
- Model the pronunciation.
- Have students repeat the phrase chorally and individually.
- Briefly discuss when and where students might hear or use this phrase.
Step 3
Phrase Practice Activity
10 minutes
- Distribute the Phrase Practice Worksheet to each student.
2. Explain that students will work in pairs to complete the worksheet, matching phrases to situations and creating short dialogues.
3. Circulate around the room, providing support, checking pronunciation, and encouraging students to use the phrases naturally.
4. After 7 minutes, bring the class back together and have a few pairs share one of their dialogues or matched situations.
Step 4
Cool-Down: Exit Ticket
5 minutes
- Distribute the Exit Ticket Cool Down.
2. Instruct students to write down one new phrase they learned today and an example of how they would use it.
3. Collect the exit tickets as students leave. This will provide a quick assessment of their understanding.

Welcome students and set an encouraging tone. Ask about phrases they already use.
1. No worries!
Meaning: Don't worry about it; it's fine.
