Learn basic counting principles
In this lesson, students will engage in a tactile counting activity using fake snowballs to learn basic counting principles. By physically moving and counting the snowballs, students will enhance their understanding of numbers and quantities. Learn basic counting principles
Fake snowballs, Counting mat, Basket or container, and Printable Snowball Counting Cards
- Gather students in a circle.
- Introduce the activity by showing the fake snowballs and explaining that they will be counting them today.
- Explain the importance of counting and how it helps us in everyday life.
Step 2
Demonstration

- Show students how to pick up a snowball and place it on the counting mat.
- Count out loud as you place each snowball on the mat.
- Demonstrate placing snowballs in a basket or container after counting.
Step 3
Guided Practice

- Distribute fake snowballs and counting mats to each student.
- Assist students in picking up and placing snowballs on their mats, counting out loud together.
- Encourage students to count independently if possible.
Step 4
Independent Practice

- Allow students to continue counting snowballs on their own.
- Provide support as needed, ensuring each student has a chance to count.
- Gather students back in a circle.
- Ask students to share how many snowballs they counted.
- Reinforce the concept of counting and praise their efforts.
