Sleep Superpowers!

Students will be able to explain why sleep is important for their bodies and minds, and identify at least two healthy sleep habits.

Understanding the importance of sleep empowers students to prioritize rest, leading to better physical health, improved concentration in school, and more regulated emotions throughout their day. This foundational knowledge supports overall well-being and academic success.

Step 1

Warm-Up: What Makes You Tired?

5 minutes

  • Begin by asking students: "What are some things you do during the day that make your body feel tired?" (e.g., running, playing, learning, thinking).
    * Discuss how our bodies work hard and need rest.

Step 2

Introducing Sleep Superpowers

8 minutes

  • Use the Sleep Superpowers Slide Deck to introduce the concept of sleep as a "superpower."
    * Go through slides 1-2, pausing to watch the embedded video about sleep superpowers. Discuss what they learned from the video.
    * Continue through slides 3-5, discussing how sleep helps bodies grow strong, brains get smart, and hearts feel happy.

Step 3

My Bedtime Routine & Healthy Habits

7 minutes

  • Continue with Sleep Superpowers Slide Deck slides 6-7, discussing bedtime routines and healthy sleep habits.
    * Ask students to share one thing they do to get ready for bed or one healthy sleep habit they want to try.

Step 4

Sleep Superpowers Activity

7 minutes

  • Distribute the My Sleep Superpowers Worksheet and crayons/colored pencils.
    * Explain that students will draw or write about their bedtime routine and how sleep helps them feel like a superhero.
    * Circulate to provide support and encourage creativity.

Step 5

Cool-Down & Reflection

3 minutes

  • Distribute the Sleep Superhero Cool Down exit ticket.
    * Ask students to complete the cool-down by sharing one new thing they learned about sleep and how they feel about getting good sleep.
    * Collect the cool-down slips as students leave or transition to the next activity.
