The Sharing Adventure Begins!

Meet Lily and Ben – best friends who love to play together.

(Hold up the first slide and smile) Today we’re going to meet two friends, Lily and Ben, and learn how they learned to share! Pause and ask: “What do you think sharing means?”

Playing with Blocks

• Lily is building a tall tower with colorful blocks.
• She’s having so much fun stacking them up high!

Explain that Lily found her favorite building blocks and started to play. Ask: “Have you ever started playing and didn’t want to stop?”

Ben Wants a Turn

• Ben walks over and sees the tower.
• He wants to play too, but Lily is still building.

Show Ben on the slide. Ask: “How do you think Ben feels when he sees Lily playing alone?”

Learning to Share

• Lily says, “Let’s take turns!”
• She says “please” when she shares her blocks.

Pause and ask kids: “What could Lily say or do to share?” Then explain the idea of taking turns.

Building Together

• Lily and Ben take turns adding blocks.
• Their tower grows taller when they share.

Point out how working together makes the tower bigger. Ask: “Does working with a friend make play more fun?”

• They laughed and celebrated together.

Highlight the positive feeling of sharing. Ask: “How do you feel when someone shares with you?”

Welcome and Introduction (5 minutes)

Teacher (standing by the rug, holding the Plush Sharing Bear Toy):

“Good morning, friends! Let’s all come sit in our circle on the rug. (Pause as children settle.)

Meet my friend here—Mr. Bear! (Hold up Plush Sharing Bear Toy, smile.) Today, Mr. Bear wants to know: What does it mean to share?

[Wait for responses. If children are quiet, prompt gently:]
“Sharing means giving or taking turns so everyone can have fun together. When we share, we show we care about our friends!”

“Today, we are going to read a story, play a sharing game, and then talk about how sharing makes us feel. Are you ready to learn why sharing is caring?”
[Cheer or clap to encourage participation.]

Story Time (8 minutes)

Teacher (walking to the screen with Sharing Story Slides):

“Let’s meet our story friends, Lily and Ben!”
(Display Slide 1: The Sharing Adventure Begins!)
Ask: “What do you think sharing means?”
[Pause and listen; praise ideas: “Great thinking!”]

(Display Slide 2: Playing with Blocks)
“Lily is building a tall, colorful tower. Have you ever been so busy playing you didn’t want to stop?”
Follow-up: “How do you feel when you really like your toy and someone asks to play?”

(Display Slide 3: Ben Wants a Turn)
“Here comes Ben. He wants to play too. How do you think Ben feels when Lily is still building?
[Encourage empathy: “Yes, maybe a little sad or left out.”]

(Display Slide 4: Learning to Share)
“What could Lily say to share her blocks?”
Expected answer: “Let’s take turns!”
“Right! Lily says, ‘Please, can you wait your turn?’”

(Display Slide 5: Building Together)
“When they share, their tower grows bigger and stronger!
Ask: “Does working with a friend make play more fun?”
[Cheerful responses: “Yes!”]

(Display Slide 6: Sharing Feels Good!)
“Look how happy they are! How do you feel when someone shares with you?
[Collect responses, e.g., “I feel happy!”]

(Display Slide 7: Key Sharing Words)

(Display Slide 8: Talk About Sharing)
“Who can tell me a time you shared something?”
[Encourage 2–3 students briefly.]

“I’m so proud of you for sharing your ideas!”

Sharing Practice Game (12 minutes)

Teacher (at center table with Colorful Building Blocks and Plush Bear):

“Now we’re going to practice sharing in small groups. I will put you into groups of three or four around these blocks.”
[Lead children to groups.]

Teacher demonstration:
(Use Plush Sharing Bear Toy.)
“Mr. Bear, may I have a block, please?”
(Hand block to bear.)
“Thank you!”
(Place block on tower.)

“See how I asked nicely and said please and thank you? Now it’s your turn!”

Child prompts:

  • “Tell your friend, ‘Can I have a turn, please?’”
  • “Say ‘thank you’ when you get the block.”
  • “Add the block to the tower, and then it’s someone else’s turn.”

Teacher (circulating):
“Wow, I see Sarah asking so politely! (Place a sticker on the Sharing Poster Chart.) Great job, Karim, for waiting patiently—here’s a sticker for you!”

Keep circling, praise each positive sharing moment, and add a sticker for each example.

Reflection and Closing (5 minutes)

Teacher (reconvene in the circle):

“Friends, let’s come back to our rug. I saw so much sharing today!”

Ask: “How did you feel when you gave a block to a friend?”
[Listen to 2–3 responses: “Happy, proud, excited.”]

Ask: “How did you feel when someone shared with you?”
[Gather quick answers.]

“Everyone who shared nicely, please pick up one of your Sharing Stickers. Walk over to our Sharing Poster Chart and place your sticker in the step you showed!”

(Once all stickers are placed:)
“Look at our beautiful poster, full of sharing steps!”

Goodbye Song:
“Let’s sing our Sharing Is Caring Tune together. Ready?”

(to tune of ‘Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star’)

Sharing is caring, it’s so much fun,
We share our toys with everyone.
Saying please and thank you too,
Taking turns is what we do.
Sharing is caring, yes it’s true—
I love to share with friends like you!

“Great singing, friends! You are all sharing stars. See you next time!”

End of lesson.
