Slide Deck

Sharing Is Caring!

What does it mean to share?

Greet students warmly. Introduce the idea that today we're going to talk about something super important for being friends and having fun together!

What Is Sharing?

It means letting others use things or taking turns!

  • Sharing toys
  • Sharing crayons
  • Sharing smiles

Explain that sharing means letting others use something you have, or taking turns. Give simple examples like sharing crayons or a toy truck. Ask: 'What do you think sharing looks like?'

Why Do We Share?

Sharing makes us:

  • Happy!
  • Good friends!
  • Have more fun together!

Discuss why sharing is a good idea. Emphasize that it makes people happy and helps everyone have fun. Ask: 'How does sharing make you feel?'

How Can We Share?

We can take turns!
We can play together!
We can offer to share!

Explain that sharing can mean taking turns with a toy, or working together on a puzzle. Provide visuals or act out examples if possible. Prompt: 'If two friends want to play with one car, what can they do?'

Let's Sing About Sharing!

My Turn, Your Turn! Fun for everyone!

Now let's sing a fun song about sharing and taking turns! Encourage students to join in with the actions.

It's Okay To Talk About Sharing!

Sometimes it's hard to share.

  • Use your words!
  • Say, "My turn next!"
  • Ask, "Can we share this?"

Remind students that even if they don't want to share something right now, they can say 'Maybe later!' or 'Can we play with something else together?' Reinforce that their feelings are important, too. 'It's okay to feel sad or mad, but we can use our words to share our feelings.'

Time to Practice Sharing!

Let's be super sharers together with Playtime Partners!

Transition to the activity. Explain that they will get to practice sharing with their friends in the Playtime Partners activity. 'Now, let's practice being super sharers with our Playtime Partners!'

Sharing is Super!

Sharing makes everyone feel good!

Keep sharing your toys, your smiles, and your kindness!

Conclude the lesson by reviewing the main idea. Praise their efforts and encourage them to share at home and at school. 'You all did such a great job thinking about sharing today! Give yourselves a pat on the back!'

Warm Up

Sharing Warm Up: Show and Tell Favorite Things

Instructions:

  1. Teacher: "Good morning, everyone! Let's start by thinking about our favorite things. What is one toy or item you love to play with? You don't have to bring it today, just think about it!"
  2. Teacher: "Raise your hand if you have a favorite toy in your mind!" (Allow a few students to briefly share, e.g., "I love my teddy bear!" or "I like my blue car!")
  3. Teacher: "Now, imagine your friend wants to play with your favorite toy. How does that make you feel?"
  4. Teacher: "Sometimes it's easy to share, and sometimes it's hard. Today, we're going to learn all about sharing and why it's so important!"

Script

Sharing Song: "My Turn, Your Turn!"

(Tune: "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star")

Teacher: "Let's sing a song about sharing! You can do the actions with me!"

(Verse 1)
My turn, your turn, that is fair,

Sharing toys with tender care.

(Hold up a toy, then pass it to an imaginary friend)

Happy friends, we love to play,

Sharing makes a joyful day!

(Clap hands, then hug self)

(Verse 2)
If I have a block or ball,

I can share with one and all.

(Point to self, then sweep hand across the group)

Take a turn and then I wait,

Sharing is truly great!

(Point to friend, then tap wrist as if waiting)

(Verse 3)
Smiles we share and happy glee,

Sharing makes you and me,

(Point to mouth, then point to friend, then self)

Best of friends, it's plain to see,

Sharing is caring for you and me!

(Hold hands out, then point to friend, then self)

Teacher: "Great singing, everyone! Remember, sharing makes everyone happy!"

Activity

Sharing Activity: Playtime Partners

Objective: Students will practice sharing toys with a partner or in small groups.

Materials: A variety of soft toys or blocks (ensure enough for each pair/small group to have one or two items to share).

Instructions:

  1. Teacher: "Now it's time to practice our sharing skills! I'm going to give each pair of friends (or small group) one or two special toys."
  2. Pairing: Divide students into pairs or small groups (2-3 students).
  3. Distribute Materials: Give each pair/group a limited number of items (e.g., one large block, two small cars, one soft animal). The key is that there isn't enough for everyone to have their own identical item, encouraging sharing.
  4. Teacher Modeling: Briefly model how to share: "Look, if Maya and Liam both want to play with this car, what can they do? They can take turns! One friend plays for a little while, then gives it to the other friend. Or, they can play together!"
  5. Guided Play (10 minutes):
    • Teacher: "Okay, friends! Now it's your turn. Play with your toys and remember to share. Use your words like 'My turn please!' or 'Can we play together?'"
    • Circulate around the room, observing and gently guiding students. Offer verbal prompts and praise for sharing behaviors.
    • Prompting Questions:
      • "How are you sharing that toy?"
      • "Wow, you took turns with the blue block! That's great sharing!"
      • "If you both want the same thing, what can you say?"
      • "Can you help your friend share?"
  6. Debrief (5 minutes): Bring students back together.
    • Teacher: "Great job, everyone! What did you learn about sharing today?"
    • "Was it easy or hard sometimes?"
    • "How did it feel when you shared your toy? How did it feel when your friend shared with you?"
    • Reinforce positive sharing behaviors observed during the activity. "I saw so many friends taking turns and playing together! That makes my heart happy!"

Cool Down

Sharing Cool Down: Thumbs Up for Sharing!

Instructions:

  1. Teacher: "Alright, super sharers! Let's think about what we learned today. I'm going to ask you a question, and if you agree, give me a thumbs up!"
  2. Question 1: "Give me a thumbs up if you think sharing makes our friends happy!"
    • (Observe student responses and affirm. "Yes, sharing makes friends happy!")
  3. Question 2: "Give me a thumbs up if you tried to share something today, even if it was just a smile!"
    • (Observe student responses and affirm. "That's wonderful! Every little bit of sharing counts!")
  4. Teacher: "You all did a fantastic job learning and practicing sharing today. Keep being kind and sharing with your friends and family!"
