Prep

Prepare Materials

10 minutes

Step 1

Warm-Up: Shape Hunt! (5 minutes)

5 minutes

Begin with the Warm-Up: Shape Hunt! activity. Ask students to look around the classroom and identify objects that resemble triangles, squares, and circles.

Step 2

Introduction to Shapes (5 minutes)

5 minutes

Use the first few slides of the Shape Drawing Adventure Slides to introduce or review triangles, squares, and circles. Discuss their characteristics (e.g., number of sides, corners).

Step 3

Guided Drawing Practice (10 minutes)

10 minutes

Using the Shape Drawing Adventure Slides, guide students through drawing each shape step-by-step on their own paper. Encourage them to say the shape names aloud as they draw.

Step 4

Independent Practice: Shape Drawing (7 minutes)

Slide Deck

Welcome, Shape Explorers!

Are you ready for a shape adventure today?

We're going to learn to draw some super cool shapes!

Welcome students and introduce the exciting topic of shapes. Ask them if they know any shapes. Engage them with the idea of being shape explorers!

Meet the Triangle!

  • 3 straight sides
  • 3 corners (or vertices)

Can you find triangles around you?

Let's draw one together!

Introduce the triangle. Point out its three sides and three corners. Have students count with you. Demonstrate drawing it slowly on the board.

Hello, Square!

  • 4 straight sides
  • All sides are the same length!
  • 4 corners (or vertices)

Where do you see squares?

Let's draw a super square!

Introduce the square. Emphasize its four equal sides and four corners. Show how to draw it, making sure sides are even.

Round and Round, It's a Circle!

  • No straight sides
  • No corners
  • It's perfectly round!

What everyday objects are circles?

Time to draw a perfect circle!

Introduce the circle. Highlight that it has no straight sides or corners. Demonstrate drawing a smooth, round circle.

Shape Review!

Let's review our shapes!

Which shape is this? How do you know?

Show a triangle, then a square, then a circle.

This slide is for a quick review. Ask students to identify each shape and recall one characteristic. This sets up the independent practice.

Your Turn: Shape Practice!

Now it's your turn to be a shape drawing superstar!

  1. Draw the shapes you see.
  2. Find and color the shapes in the picture!

Work on your Shape Drawing Practice Worksheet!

Explain the worksheet activity. Remind them to draw neatly and then color the shapes in the picture. Circulate to offer help.

Great Job, Shape Artists!

You did an amazing job drawing shapes today!

Shapes are everywhere, and now you know how to draw them!

Conclude the lesson. Reiterate the fun of shapes. Prepare them for the cool-down activity.
