  • Review English/Spanish key terms on the vocabulary handout before class.

Step 1

Hook & Vocabulary Introduction

5 minutes

  • Pose the question: “How do plants and animals reproduce?” / “¿Cómo se reproducen las plantas y los animales?”
  • Distribute Bilingual Vocabulary Handout with terms like sexual reproduction/reproducción sexual, asexual reproduction/reproducción asexual, pollination/polinización.
  • Quickly review each term in English then Spanish, showing images for context.

Step 2

Explore Pollination Concepts

10 minutes

  • Play Pollination Video highlighting animal roles in transferring pollen.
  • Pause at key moments to ask students to describe what they see in English and Spanish.
  • Use Think-Pair-Share: students discuss observations in mixed-language pairs.

Step 3

Compare Reproduction Types

10 minutes

  • Hand out Reproduction Comparison Chart.
  • In pairs, students complete definitions, examples, and processes for sexual vs. asexual reproduction in both languages.
  • Provide sentence frames (e.g., “Sexual reproduction involves…”/“La reproducción sexual implica…”).

Step 4

Labeling Activity

10 minutes

  • Give each group a set of Reproduction Diagram Cards.
  • Students assemble and label flower parts and pollination steps, writing terms in English and Spanish.
  • Groups present one labeled diagram to the class, describing in both languages.

Step 5

Exit Ticket & Assessment

10 minutes

  • Distribute Bilingual Reproduction Quiz as a quick formative exit ticket.
  • Students answer 3 multiple-choice questions and 2 short-answer prompts in either language.
  • Collect quizzes to assess understanding and identify misconceptions.

Agenda / Agenda:

  1. Vocabulary / Vocabulario
  2. Video / Video
  3. Comparison Chart / Cuadro comparativo
  4. Diagram Activity / Actividad de diagrama
  5. Exit Ticket / Evaluación de salida

Welcome students! Introduce today’s topic and share the agenda. Explain that we will explore how plants reproduce sexually and asexually and how animals help with pollination, all in English and Spanish.

Key Vocabulary Vocabulario clave

• Sexual reproduction — reproducción sexual
• Asexual reproduction — reproducción asexual
• Pollination — polinización
• Pollen — polen
• Seed — semilla

Display each term and image. Pronounce in English, then Spanish. Ask volunteers to repeat. Point out cognates (e.g., reproduction–reproducción).

Play the video. Pause at 1:00 and 2:30. Ask: “What animal is carrying pollen? / ¿Qué animal transporta el polen?” Encourage answers in both languages.

Compare Reproduction Types Reproducción sexual vs. asexual

Use the Reproduction Comparison Chart to:

  1. Define each type / Definir cada tipo
  2. Give an example / Dar un ejemplo
  3. Describe the process / Describir el proceso

Guide pairs to fill in definitions, examples, and processes in both languages. Circulate and support with sentence frames.

Label the Diagram Etiqueten el diagrama

  1. Get Reproduction Diagram Cards.
  2. Assemble the flower and pollination steps.
  3. Label parts in English & Spanish.
  4. Prepare to explain your diagram.

Distribute the diagram cards. Students build and label flower parts and pollination steps in English and Spanish. Invite one group to present.

Exit Ticket Evaluación de salida

Complete the Bilingual Reproduction Quiz:
• 3 multiple-choice questions / 3 preguntas de opción múltiple
• 2 short-answer prompts / 2 preguntas de respuesta corta
Use English or Spanish.

Hand out the quiz. Remind students they can answer in either language. Collect when finished to check understanding.
