Slide Deck

Sensory Superheroes

Become a Sensory Superhero by exploring your five senses and using simple tools to feel calm and focused!

Welcome students and introduce the lesson. Explain that today they become Sensory Superheroes who will explore their five senses and learn tools to stay calm and focused.

Today’s Superhero Mission

• Identify our five senses
• Try special sensory tools
• Practice using tools to feel calm and focused

Briefly walk through the three goals so students know what to expect.

Our Five Senses

Sight • Hearing • Taste • Touch • Smell

Display the Five Senses Poster. Point to each sense and ask for an example (e.g., “What do we see with?”).

Sensory Superhero Tools

• Soft Stress Ball (touch)
• Feather (touch & tickle)
• Lavender-Scented Cloth (smell)
• Timer (hearing beep)
• Five Senses Poster (sight)

Show each item on the front table as you name it. Encourage gentle touching or sniffing as appropriate.

Time to Explore!

Choose one tool, notice which sense you use, and share how it feels!

Invite students, one at a time, to choose a tool, use it, and then answer “Which sense did you use?” and “How did it feel?”

Sensory Superhero Practice

Scenario: “I feel wiggly in my seat.”
Which tool can help? Choose a tool card and practice using it!

Hand each student a Sensory Tools Picture Card. Read scenarios slowly and help students pick and practice their tool.

Reflection & Celebration

What was your favorite tool? How did it help you?

Activity

Sensory Circle Activity

Time: 5 minutes

Materials:

  • Five Senses Poster
  • Sensory Tools Picture Cards
  • A soft “talking” object (e.g., plush toy or stress ball) for passing around (optional)

Purpose:
A quick, whole‐class sharing to reinforce sense identification and let each Sensory Superhero say which tool they like best.

Procedure

  1. Gather in a Circle
Have students sit criss-cross on the floor so everyone can see the poster in the center.

  2. Introduce the Talking Object
Explain that whoever holds the soft object gets a turn to speak.
“When you have the object, share one sense or your favorite tool and why you like it.”

  3. Pass and Share

    • Teacher starts by holding the object, pointing to the Five Senses Poster, and naming one sense (e.g., “I see with my eyes!”) or choosing a tool (e.g., “I like the soft stress ball because it feels squishy!”).
    • Gently roll or hand the object to the next student.
    • Each student who catches it shares their sense or tool.
    • Continue until everyone has had a turn or time is up.
  4. Closure Question
    After the circle, ask:
    • “Which sense helps you learn best?”
    • “Which tool will you use when you feel wiggly or upset?”

Teacher Tips & Follow-Up

  • Encourage short, simple answers.
  • Offer sentence starters: “I feel calm when I use ___.”
  • Keep the pace brisk—this is a quick energizer or wrap-up.
  • Remind students they can use any of these tools anytime they need to refocus or calm down.
