Welcome, Superheroes!

Today, we're going to unlock a special power: Self-Regulation!

What do you think that means?

Welcome students and build excitement for learning about self-regulation. Start by asking them what they think the term means to gauge prior knowledge.

Your Inner Superpower!

Self-regulation is your ability to:

  • Understand your feelings
  • Manage your actions
  • Choose how you respond

It's like having control over your own 'inner buttons'!

Introduce the idea of a 'superpower' to make the concept engaging. Explain that everyone has these powers inside them.

Feelings on the Inside

Sometimes we feel:

  • Happy! 😊
  • Sad! 😢
  • Frustrated! 😠
  • Excited! 🤩

How do these feelings show up in your body?

Discuss how emotions feel in their bodies. Emphasize that all feelings are okay, but how we respond matters.

Your Self-Regulation Toolkit

Just like a superhero needs tools, you need strategies to help you when feelings get big!

What tools do you already use?

Introduce the idea of a toolkit. This makes strategies seem concrete and accessible.

Tools For Your Toolkit!

Here are some awesome strategies:

  • Deep Breaths: In through your nose, out through your mouth
  • Count to 10: Give your brain time to catch up
  • Positive Self-Talk: "I can do this!"
  • Take a Break: Walk away, get a drink of water
  • Talk it Out: Share your feelings with a trusted adult

Present specific, actionable strategies. Model one or two briefly.

Build Your Own Toolkit!

It's time to create your very own My Self-Regulation Toolkit Worksheet!

Think about what works best for YOU!

Transition to the worksheet activity, explaining that students will personalize their own toolkit.

Practice Your Superpower!

Now let's play the Regulate and Relate Activity!

We'll practice using our new tools in different situations.

Explain the Regulate and Relate Activity and how it connects to real-life situations.

You've Got Superpowers!

Remember, self-regulation is a skill you can practice every day!

Keep using your toolkit to be your best self!

Reinforce the main message and encourage continued practice. End on a positive, empowering note.
