Develop self-regulation skills

This series of lessons is designed to teach self-regulation skills to 4th graders, particularly those with ADHD. Through a sequence of engaging and interactive activities, students will learn to recognize emotions, improve focus, manage impulsivity, and apply self-regulation strategies in daily life. This series is important as it provides a comprehensive approach to developing essential skills that enhance learning and personal growth.

  • Activity: Self-Regulation Superhero: In groups, students create a superhero with powers that help manage emotions. They can draw and describe their superhero's abilities.

  • Introduce the concept of emotions and their role in self-regulation.
  • Use emotion identification games to help students recognize and name different emotions.
  • Activity: Emotion Charades: Students take turns acting out emotions for others to guess, enhancing their ability to identify and express feelings.

  • Explore techniques to improve focus and attention.
  • Distribute the reading handout 'Tips for Staying Focused' and discuss.
