Screen Time Superheroes

Learn how to use screens like a superhero—balancing screen time with play, rest, and family!

Welcome students! Today we’re going to become Screen Time Superheroes. Ask: “What are your favorite games or shows on screens?” Use responses to engage. Introduce the idea of balancing screen time with other fun activities.

What Is a Screen Time Superhero?

• A hero who uses screens in healthy, balanced ways
• Sets time limits for games and shows
• Mixes screen time with other fun activities
• Takes breaks, plays outside, and rests on time

Explain that a Screen Time Superhero uses screens in healthy ways. Point to the list as you discuss each habit. Ask a few students: “How do you take breaks when you play games?”

Healthy Screen Time Habits

  1. Take a short break after 20–30 minutes on screens
  2. Play outside or do a quiet activity between screen sessions
  3. Turn screens off 30 minutes before bedtime
  4. Ask a grown-up to help set daily screen time limits

On chart paper, write down habits as students share. Highlight two main tips: setting a timer and mixing in non-screen activities. Ask: “What’s one thing you love to do away from screens?”

Create Your Screen Time Superhero Plan

• Draw your Screen Time Superhero in the box
• Write when you will use screens each day (morning, afternoon, evening)
• Decide how many minutes or hours you’ll spend in each slot
• Color and decorate to make it your own!

Distribute the worksheet now. Explain each part: drawing their superhero, writing in morning/afternoon/evening screen times, and coloring. Circulate to support and ask: “Does this plan feel fun and fair?”

Share & Take Home

• 2–3 students share their plans with the class
• Take your worksheet home tonight
• Review your plan with a family member
• Ask a grown-up to help you follow your superhero schedule!

Invite a few volunteers to share their superhero plans. Praise creative ideas and balanced schedules. Then explain how to share at home: “Show this plan to your family and ask for their help setting routines.”
