Activity Session 1: Role-Playing Respectful Behaviors

Instructions
-
Pair Up:
- Choose a partner to work with for this activity.
- Each pair will receive a set of Respect Role-Play Cards that contain different scenarios involving respectful and respectful-challenged situations.
-
Review the Scenario:
- Look at the scenario card together.
- Read the situation carefully and discuss what respectful behavior would look like in that scenario.
-
Role-Play:
- One student will act out the scenario while the other observes.
- Switch roles so both partners have a chance to act and observe.
-
Discussion:
- After each role-play, discuss what happened and identify any respectful actions taken during the scenario.

Game
Game Session 1: Respectful Rangers Adventure
Overview
This interactive game will serve as a fun way to reinforce respectful behaviors while encouraging teamwork and communication among the group. The game is a playful adventure where the students become "Respectful Rangers" on a quest to collect "Tokens of Kindness" by demonstrating and identifying respectful actions during various challenges.
Game Setup
-
Team Formation:
- Divide the group into two small teams (or work as one group if preferred).
- Explain that each team will collaborate to complete challenges that earn them tokens representing acts of respect.
-
Token Preparation:
- Create simple tokens (e.g., colored paper cutouts, stickers) that represent acts of respect. Place these tokens in a container.
-
Challenge Cards:
- Prepare a set of challenge cards that describe different scenarios or actions related to respect (similar to the scenarios on the Respect Role-Play Cards).
- Each challenge card poses a problem or situation that the teams must solve by discussing and agreeing on a respectful course of action.
Game Play
-
Starting the Quest:
- Begin the game by explaining that your classroom is on a quest to collect as many Tokens of Kindness as possible by demonstrating respect.
- Reveal the first challenge card to the group.
-
Challenge Response:
- Read the challenge aloud. For example: "A classmate is feeling left out during recess. How can you show respect and include them?"
- Teams will have 2 minutes to discuss and decide on one respectful action that addresses the scenario.
-
Sharing and Earning Tokens:
- Each team shares their solution with the group.
- When a team provides a respectful, thoughtful solution, they earn a Token of Kindness. Place the token in their designated area.
- If both teams provide great ideas, both teams earn a token to promote shared success.
-
Rotation:
- Continue drawing new challenge cards until each student has had an opportunity to contribute to a solution or until the allotted time expires.
Wrap-Up and Reflection
-
Debrief Discussion:
- After the game, bring the teams together to reflect on their experiences. Ask guiding questions such as:
- What did you learn about respectful communication during the game?
- How did working together help make the decisions?
- Which challenge did you find most interesting, and why?
