Respect Quest Lesson Plan
Students will learn to recognize and demonstrate respectful behaviors by viewing a video, discussing examples, sorting scenarios, and reflecting on personal actions.
Building respect helps create a positive, safe classroom where everyone feels valued. Practicing respect early fosters empathy, cooperation, and strong peer relationships.

Materials
- Story: A Little Respectful Spot Video, - Respect Scenario Cards, - Chart Paper, - Markers, and - Sticky Notes
Prep
Teacher Preparation
5 minutes
- Preview the Story: A Little Respectful Spot video to choose a 4-minute clip.
- Prepare or print Respect Scenario Cards illustrating respectful vs. disrespectful actions.
- On Chart Paper, draw two columns labeled “Respectful Actions” and “Disrespectful Actions.”
- Gather Sticky Notes and Markers for reflection activity.
Step 1
Warm-Up
1 minute
- Greet the class and ask, “What does respect mean?”
- Show one scenario card and have students give a thumbs-up if it shows respect or thumbs-down if not.
- Briefly discuss their responses.
Step 2
Video Viewing
4 minutes
- Play the first 4 minutes of the Story: A Little Respectful Spot.
- Ask students to watch for ways Spot shows respect through listening and kind words.
Step 3
Discussion
2 minutes
- Ask: “What respectful actions did you see?”
- Record student answers under “Respectful Actions” on the Chart Paper.
- Prompt for examples of disrespectful actions and record under that column.
Step 4
Activity: Scenario Sorting
2 minutes
- Distribute Respect Scenario Cards to pairs.
- Instruct pairs to decide if their card shows respect or not.
- Each pair places their card in the matching column on the Chart Paper.
Step 5
Cool-Down & Reflection
1 minute
- Give each student a sticky note to write one way they will show respect today.
- Invite a few volunteers to share and post their notes on the board.

Respect Quest
In this 10-minute lesson, we’ll learn what respect looks like and how to show it to others!
Welcome students and introduce the lesson. Explain that today we’ll go on a “Respect Quest” to learn how to show respect in our classroom.
Lesson Objectives
By the end of this lesson, you will:
• Recognize respectful actions
• Identify disrespectful actions
• Show respect through words and actions
Read each objective aloud and check for understanding. Emphasize that we’ll watch a video, talk, sort scenarios, and reflect.
Warm-Up: Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down?
Scenario: Maya finishes her drawing and shares it with the class before everyone else.
Is Maya being respectful?
👍 Thumbs Up 👎 Thumbs Down
Display this scenario and ask students to give a thumbs-up if the action is respectful or thumbs-down if it’s not. Encourage a quick share of why.
Watch the first 4 minutes of Story: A Little Respectful Spot.
Look for ways Spot shows respect.
Play the first 4 minutes of the video. Remind students to watch for Spot’s respectful actions like listening and using kind words.
Discussion
- What respectful actions did you see?
- What disrespectful actions did you notice?
- Why is being respectful important?
Use chart paper to record student responses under two columns: Respectful Actions and Disrespectful Actions.
Activity: Scenario Sorting
In pairs, sort your Respect Scenario Card.
Place it under:
• Respectful Actions
• Disrespectful Actions
Hand out scenario cards in pairs. Encourage students to discuss and then place their card in the correct column on the chart.
Reflection
On a sticky note, write one way you will show respect today.
Share with the class and post it to our Respect Board!
Distribute sticky notes and markers. Ask volunteers to share their ideas before posting on the board to build a visual reminder of respect.

Worksheet
Respect Scenario Cards
Print and cut out each card along the lines. Distribute one card to each pair for the Scenario Sorting activity. Teams will decide whether their card shows respectful or disrespectful behavior and then place it under the correct column on the chart paper.
Card 1
Mia waits quietly in line for her turn to get a snack instead of pushing ahead.
Card 2
Jay calls his friend silly names when he doesn’t like the game he chose.
Card 3
Sofia offers to share her crayons with a student who forgot theirs.
Card 4
Carlos grabs the paintbrush from another student without asking and starts painting with it.
