Session 1 Plan
Students will understand the importance of listening the first time and responding with “Okay,” set personal behavioral goals, and practice these skills through modeling and role-play.
Teaching active listening and a respectful response fosters better communication, supports classroom engagement, and builds positive relationships with adults.

- Gather and print all materials:
- Review the key behaviors: listening first time and saying “Okay.”
- Familiarize yourself with role-play scenarios and token system.

Warm-Up
5 minutes
- Greet the student with a friendly hello.
- Ask: “What does respect mean to you?”
- Listen to examples and connect them to listening and responding.
Step 2
Introduction & Teaching
8 minutes
- Display the Behavior Agreement Poster.
- Explain the two key behaviors:
- Listening the first time someone speaks
- Saying “Okay” to show you heard and will follow directions
- Model a teacher instruction and say “Okay” clearly.
Step 3
Guided Practice
8 minutes
- Introduce the Active Listening Card Deck.
- Student draws a card with a scenario (e.g., “Please sit down”).
- Student practices listening and saying “Okay.”
- Award a Respect Token each time the student listens and responds correctly.
Step 4
Reflection
5 minutes
- Provide the Reflection Journal Page.
- Ask the student to write or draw:
- When it was easy to listen and say “Okay.”
- When it was challenging and why.
- Discuss responses and set a simple goal for next session.

Cool-Down & Closing

- Summarize today’s lesson: listening first time and saying “Okay.”
- Reinforce the student’s goal and praise effort.
- Give one final Respect Token for participation.
- Explain that these tokens track progress toward a reward.
